Kenny's Perspectives #16

It was a very somber day Saturday at Standridge Stadium as the Creekview Mustangs won a hard fought victory over the Keller Timber Creek Falcons. On Friday morning the Mustangs found out that they had lost one of their teammates, senior linebacker Kiet Nguyen who was found dead in his home. As the news came down you can only imagine the pain and sorrow that the team must have been dealing with.  For obvious reasons it was an emotionally packed day. The Mustangs had a candlelight memorial for their fallen brother on Friday night and decided as a team to play the game on Saturday morning as a tribute to him.

I'm not sure how the team was able to put the news behind them for 48 minutes of football but they sure did.  After getting down in an early hole 7-0 on a 43 yard touchdown by Cedric Dale, the Creekview Mustangs scored 24 unanswered points on a 2 yard TD run by Dylan Kittrell to even the score at 7.  Then Creekview took the lead on a 26 yard FG by Christian Guerra to take a 10-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.  In the second quarter, the Mustangs increased their lead by 10 on a Johnny Jones 20 yard TD run to put Creekview up 17-7 at halftime.  At the third quarter Creekview opened up the scoring on a 64 yard TD pass from David Blough to Dylan Kittrell to put the Mustangs up 24-7.  The TD connection was a thing of beauty from Blough to Kittrell as he used his speed to outrun the Falcon defenders to the end zone.  At the end of the quarter the Falcons got a great punt return that lead them to a Cedric Dale 19 yard TD run before the third quarter ended to bring the score up to Mustangs 24-14.  As final quarter started the Falcons got the ball on a Creekview turnover ending the drive on another TD run by Cedric Dale to bring the Falcons to within three points of the Mustangs.  After a fourth down stop by the Mustangs they got in a great punt that landed the Falcons at their own ten yard.  The Mustangs stopped them and were able to run out the clock albeit a little scary with a fumble that was recovered by the Mustangs to end the game. It was a gut check game that should make you feel proud of what these kids had to overcome to win!

As the game ended, both teams had silent moment for Kiet Nguyen. It could be felt throughout the stadium that while this had been a great game it had meant so much more than that on this particular day.  As the fitting tributes were coming to a close and the pure raw emotions of losing someone dear to you were being recognized everything was put into perspective on what life really is!  My heart and prayers go out to the Nguyen family and the Mustang football team.  I cannot even fathom what you are feeling or going through at this time.  I pray that your hearts will mend and that you will continue to play the rest of the season for your fallen brother.  At least for this one Saturday morning game you gave him the ultimate gift.  It was a hard fought victory where your hearts will never be questioned again!  Congrats!

   RIP Kiet Nguyen

SAGINAW @ CREEKVIEW by Austin Kimball

September 7, 2012
SAGINAW @ CREEKVIEW

The Creekview Mustangs (1-0) are at home for the first time in 2012, they will play the Saginaw Rough Riders (1-0) at Standridge stadium this Friday.

Creekview, who defeated Chisolm Trail last Friday 46-0, hope to continue their dominance against an improved Saginaw team; the Rough Riders are coming off a big 28-7 win over The Colony in week one.

Creekview hopes to keep the ground game going, they gained over 300 yards rushing against Chisolm Trail; senior running back Johnny Jones led the field with 134 yards on only 13 carries – Jones was the Mustang’s leading rusher in 2011 as well.

Rough Riders are returning 17 starters from last season, ten of eleven starters on defense alone. Experience can be overrated, however, as Saginaw gave up over 30 points a game (average) in 2011, leading to a 1-9 finish.

The two undefeated teams will face each other this Friday; game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm.

CREEKVIEW @ CHISOLM TRAIL by Austin Kimball

CREEKVIEW @ CHISOLM TRAIL

The Creekview Mustangs opened the 2012 in Ft. Worth against the Chisolm Trail Rangers, in the Rangers’ inaugural varsity football season. The Mustangs won 46-0.

Creekview showed dominance on the ground last Friday, rushing for 328 yards on only 46 carries. The Mustang’s leading rusher from 2011, led the field again with 134 rushing yards, averaging over 10 yards per carry.

Returning starting QB David Blough needed few attempts to prove he was the same Blough from last season; he completed 8 of his 13 pass attempts for 118 yards and three TD’s. He also ran for 21 yards. Blough threw for 1034 yards in 2011, with nine total TD’s.

Senior wide out Dylan Kittrell had an unexpected breakout performance, scoring three TD’s (two receiving, one rush), and catching three passes for 60 yards. Kittrell had one catch all of last season.

Creekview as a team gained over 500 yards of total offense, while shutting out the opposing Rangers. The Mustangs look toward their next game against Saginaw, who are coming off a 28-7 win over  The Colony.

Saginaw will meet Creekview at Standridge on Friday, September 7.

The Creekview Mustangs had little trouble with Saginaw Chisholm Trail Friday night. Chisholm Trail who is competing in their first year of varsity football had no answer for Creekview. The Mustangs offense were led by quarterback David Blough who completed 8 out of 13 for 118 yards and 3 touchdowns and rushed 4 times for 21 yards and a touchdown. Dylan Kittrel added 1 rushing touchdown and 3 receiving touchdowns. Creekview rushed the ball 46 times for 328 yards led by Johnny Jones who carried the ball 13 times for 134 yards. Creekview finished with over 500 yards total offense.  Creekview's defense was led by Cameron Adkins who had 6 solo tackles and one fumble recovery.
Creekview takes on Saginaw (2-0) this Friday Sept. 7th  at Standridge Stadium at 7:30pm. Saginaw is coming off two impressive wins beating Haltom 48-17 and The Colony 28-7.

Newman Smith took on 2011 playoff team McKinney North and appeared to have opening game jitters getting outscored 17-0 in the first half. The Trojans got a hold of those nerves and ended up shutting down McKinney North in the second half . Quarterback Cole Brewer and Andy Wordlaw torched McKinney North out of the pistol formation much of the game and appeared to be unstoppable running the option time after time. Quarterback Cole Brewer rushed 18 times for 88 yards while running back Andy Wordlaw  21 times for 90 yards. The Trojans scored 21 unanswered points for a come from behind 21-17 victory.
The Trojans travel to Little Elm (0-1)  for another non district contest. Little Elm is coming off a 57-56 loss to 2011 regional finalist Sherman. Little Elm will be the second 2011 playoff qualifier in as many weeks and should prove to be another good test for the Trojans. Newman Smith and Little Elm square off this Friday at Little Elm Stadium at 7:30pm.
